The library of Studio Firmano is a unique place in the territory of the Marche: it is the only library dedicated to medical history, with the goal of providing specialized national, international and local literature. Particular attention is reserved for ancient and modern bibliographical material, once again centred on a historical-medical theme, and published in the surroundings of the Marche Region and on themes of local interest.
The Library is constantly increasing its collection of modern and ancient bibliographical material, also thanks to many charitable contributions of library funds, coming from Italian and foreign scholars. The presence of a part of the Adalberto Pazzini collection is noteworthy (the main historian of Italian medicine of the twentieth century and founder of the Institute of Medical History of the University “La Sapienza” in Rome) as well as the recent donation of the library of Professor Vivian Nutton, a medical historian known all over the world, a senior professor at the University of Cambridge and the University College of London, honorary member of Studio Firmano. During 2012, the donation of the library of Professor Loris Premuda, a world renowned medical historian, added about 5,000 volumes to the library’s collection, these volumes are still being catalogued, thus consolidating the role of Studio Firmano as the leading institute in historical-medical research on national and international scales.
