The Library is currently complete with around 50,000 volumes, that make it one of the most important of the region. The following are of particular interest: 10,000 manuscripts, a little more than 300 incunabula, over 4,000 editions from the XVI century. Worthy of note, among the print collections, are the works associated with historical local interest, and the juridical, philosophical-naturalistic and medical editions from the XVll-XVlll centuries. It also has a musical and theatrical collection with manuscripts such as the archive of the Cappella del Duomo, a stock of hundreds of booklets, posters, and printed music. Historic collections from the Rinascimento period were collected and donated by the two brothers Giovanni and Domenico Spadoni. There is also a significant photo library with around 52,000 pictures, more than 50,000 photographic glass plates in the process of reorganization, as well as a collection of drawings and prints.
All the ancient and valuable funds are catalogued and accessible for consultation. The library is part of the librarian pole of the city and participates in the SBN project (National Librarian Service), cataloguing new works in the computerised network. A large portion of the photos of Fondo Balelli was also catalogued in Opac (around 2,000 units) These photos, then, can be searched by subject and viewed in the online catalogue. The public can also avail of an alphabetical catalogue for authors, in cards with an international format, as well as an alphabetical catalogue for subjects and catalogues divided up from special collections. The incunabula and manuscripts have a printed inventory.
The reading room on the ground floor of the library can house around 50 people. There are 2 internet stations. The entire building has a wireless connection through Digital Macerata.
