The Georgica Academy is situated in the prestigious XIX century building designed by the architect Giuseppe Valadier and it has a precious library heritage with more than 14,000 volumes, a rich archive which contains: the Historical Civil Archive with the diplomatic-parchment including 1,196 parchments, an Academics Archive with manuscripts about studies in the agriculture sector, a collection of photos with autographs and an inscription of famous people donated by Raffaele Simboli.
Still today the Academy offers a significant amount of help in the cultural progression of the regional reality and it remains a point of reference for scholars and researchers. The effort that the Academic Magistrate made in supporting it all these years is to offer a service that is more readily able to meet the needs of new requests from users.
The Georgica Academy in Treia is currently a non-profit association of social utility that pursues only the protection, promotion and valorisation of art and history, in these last years it has based its activity on supporting the following evolutions:
- From a structural point of view, through the restoration, revival and adjustments to the current regulations of its own technology devices;
- From the point of view of possessed heritage, through the arrangement, cataloguing, recovery and securing of the library heritage, of the archive and of the other aspects of cultural heritage present in the Academy, through the use of conventional procedures, even computers, known on international and national levels.
Among the projects underway, in particular, there is the digitalisation of the ancient library with the scanning of 9,560 volumes and the recovery, restoration and cataloguing project of the Historical Civil Archive of Treia from its origins to 1970.
During this last period, the Academy has been directing its activity towards the possibility for young people who have the adequate skills, to gain some serious work experience to enrich their individual knowledge and experience. Current philosophy proves that the optimisation of modern economic resources and the organization of the duties of many volunteers, as well as the communicative skills of teens can succeed in valuing cultural heritage, enabling us to put cultural resources into the market that might guarantee an economic repayment of education over time. This is important to create, as imposed by the current economic national and European directives, and it provides an employment opportunity for the younger generations.
The consultation room is located in the Academy offices and it has 2 work stations with internet connection for the consultation of the electronic catalogues of the library and the archives, as well as some digital collections, it also has a Wi-Fi connection in all the rooms of the Academy.
